This may have already been brought up (I haven't read all the posts) but a good idea is to use your ANA Member # when reporting obviously fraudulent coin auctions to Ebay. I've had more luck with it than without when it comes to reporting EBAY Coin Scams... Ben
Sounds great. Let's see if it works. _ HERE - are 10 counterfeits all by the same lister. He successfully sold several counterfeit items yesterday in spite of our reporting him. Try reporting him again with you ANA numbers and see if it works.
Well, lets see what happens. Here's what I wrote. http://cgi1.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISA...tion+of+Identity&instruction=&expirationDate= All 10 items the seller luigi_tambo has listed are neither coins or silver. The following listings are fraudulent. 260134415450 , 260134385221, 260134415030, 260134415852, 260134416178, 260134416458, 260134417049, 260134417414, 260134417624 , 260134418297 Thank Your for your swift corrective action. Ben Blake ANA# R-3130358
Chuckle, I followed that link and in all honesty I don't know how I got to it, LOL... Also reported the 10 items the usual way where you can only add the items number. Ben
Thank you Clinker for posting this thread. Once again, you are doing the coin buying community a BIG service by doing this. And I should add Ardatirion to this THANK YOU also. And thanks to you Ben also. Does anyone think that contacting the bidders of these items, and warning them, would do any good? Also, what about starting a boycott of E-Bay, and asking other fourms to start a boycott also? Or has this been suggested before? And, where did the seller even get this "stuff"? Just wondering. So sorry Clembo.....You're the one who started this thread.....I apologize. Must be the heat. And, thank you for posting this thread. swick
Swick; Before you start notifying bidders, please read pages 4 & 5 of " Wow! WHAT A BARGAIN!". You will be unpleasantly surprised. Boycott? Good luck! I doubt that you could even make a dent. You might try writing a guide. Hey! For all its problems, it is possible to succeed on eBay. I can't say that I have never lost, but I have more bargains than losses. Just read and be careful. When in doubt, do not do it.
You think coins can be a bad time on E-Bay try buying a classic car. I do no belong to e-bay but look for the phone numbers of cars in the Philly area. I then go see the cars and what surprises, rust and other things you do not see in the pics. Yet people buy these cars on e-bay without seeing them in person. Very scary
I Reported them to Susan McMillan from the ANA, we'll see what happens. On a side note if you could pick up those altered silver eagles for under melt that wouldn't be a bad thing. I just wouldn't want to egg on a crook like that.
Except; 1. Are they silver? 2. He charges "$5.50 DLS." for shipping. 3. Does anyone have a clue what size they are?
And there's an even more basic reason for this. Paypal charges Business and Premier Accounts the same rate for all transactions, regardless of whether they are done with a credit card. So if the buyer does a direct draw (checking account or Paypal balance), Paypal gets to keep all of the fixed fee plus percentage rather than sharing it with the credit card company. On top of that, of course, is the convenient "float" that Paypal uses for its withdrawls of Paypal balances, which allows more fractions of cents multiplied by millions of transactions to flow into its coffers. (Someone's got to pay for those automated e-mails.) I also love how the default response on this page "Are You Sure you want to change to a Credit Card?" is NO in bold print. I'm waiting for them to hide the "Yes" in a 1 x 1 pixel button.
Sad to say, those items were reported long before the sales were completed. eBay stinks as far as fraud goes. Unless the item says "This is a fake, and I hope that you pay me for it as though it were a real item" they will not do very much. That is why we have to gang up on these idiots.
Thanks First of all I'd like to thank everyone that has participated in this thread. Once again Ardatirion listed this auction in his WHAT A BARGAIN thread. I'm not after this particular seller but believe me he should be banished. I chose this because this is the auction that I reported and wanted to share ebay's lame reply. Philly Dog brought cars into the conversation (thank you!) as it makes the point that much more clear. EBAY WANTS THEIR MONEY! I have been on ebay for 9 years now and been burned once WAY back when. I prefer that other people don't get burned. Is that a bad thing? Caveat Emptor and common sense DO come into play of course but when people are OBVIOUSLY selling fraudulent items ebay needs to take proper measures. As these auctions wind down with winning bidders what happens next? If ebay is informed that the item is an obvious fake after the auction closes will they still charge the fee? Will they notify the buyer? Yes, most bidders are informed and some may have bid just for the novelty but can ebay guarantee that? Lots of questions and this is a big can of worms.
It is midnight here. 1 has sold ($117.50!) and the other 9 have less than 2 hours to go. Does not appear to have worked. I do not know what to tell you. Maybe he will get NARU'ed when the buyers realize tht these were fkes.
Nor do I, these were items which were blatantly frauds. I received an e-mail yesterday from Ebay saying they were upset at me because I used the sellers name in the e-mail... The only problem is I sent it to Safeharbor.
