I get that. So the other porous metals can exceed 11% and pass the magnet test? It seems to me that no one would ever try to fake a CC silver Morgan Dollar or any other silver dollar? The fakes would cost more to make than buying the real coin? That said, I have seen a fake Chinese gold coin when a metal coin had a gold plate. Gold is $1250 oz. and much more likely to fake than a $12 silver coin?
If people are breaking the law by making counterfeit US coins to sell, what is going to stop them from smuggling silver out of the country?
I wish you could answer that question? I have five 1878 silver Morgan coins (the first year made). This is a 1878-S 7-tail which is readily available. It's not hard to find. ~$35 in MS grade? I like them a lot at this price, but they are sure not worth the price of counterfeiting.

Of course they are making fake coins, where the real ones are rare and valuable, but if they can make a coin for a dollar and sell it for $30, they are certainly doing that as well. And the lower priced coins may not raise as much suspicion with non expert coin buyers.
As an example - I have a friend who works customs at one of the nations ports. Illegal Chi-com honey is a big thing. Fake companies, faked documents, what ever it takes to attempt to get it by the authorities. Then they started routing through different countries to "launder" it. Agents learned it was fairly easy to identify the country of origin by the pollen in the honey. So then the Chinese starting stripping the pollen out of it and routing it through countries that assisted in their illegal activities. At some point you wonder if it would just be more profitable to focus efforts on legal activities. But they never stop trying...
I'm sure the US Treasury department is not happy about a foreign country making counterfeit US coins, so they are breaking OUR law. I just read a VERY interesting article about people importing mutilated Chinese fakes, and getting reimbursed through the mutilated coin redemption program. That's the tip of the iceberg. Our "friends" in China have been screwing us for years. Edited: Political discussion
I'll say first that I don't trust online values. Yes, I have about five CC dollars. I have about $500 in all five. I do 100% agree that China is a communist-controlled country, and I will never trust them. I think the current equity market is making a big mistake by buying into their market. I'll stick with U.S. Companies that are SEC GAAP accounting certified. Many of those have some foreign exposures including those controlled by Communist's. I trust Coca-Cola and Microsoft to figure this out. Some of the Morgan CC values seem too high for me.
