For each AB combination, the 12345678 C part is numerically incremented from 000000001 A upwards. Once a maximum is reached (not 99999999 as you'd expect, but 96000000 for these series, from 1996), the counter goes back to 00000001 and the next suffix letter. So, as an example, take the 2009 series $20 bill ... the first letter = J (for series 2009), let's go with New York (B):</p><p> </p><p>JB 00000001 A thru JB 96000000 A then ...</p><p>JB 00000001 B thru JB 96000000 B ... then C, D, etc. Note that neither O or Z are used.</p><p> </p><p>Replacement notes (to replace those printed incorrectly or similar) use * as their suffix.</p><p> </p><p>Hope that helps![/QUOTE]</p><p><br /></p>
