Nahhh - you can buy 'em online at a hundred different places. The full title is - The Official American Numismatic Association Grading Standards for United States Coins. And while I always recommend that everyone read everything they can about grading and utilize any and all resources - pay the most attention to this book. By the way, there is an entire section on coin grading in Numismatic Resources.
Nice clean example.. Sorry for being a little late on this I couldn't find the thread with the forum button missing! BTW - high grade IKES had flown past previous auction prices this past week by almost a 1/3rd at the Heritage Milwaukee ANA sale. http://coins.ha.com/common/view_item.php?Sale_No=445&Lot_No=9233 http://coins.ha.com/common/view_item.php?Sale_No=445&Lot_No=9232 Ruben
I like Ike myself and think that his high grade mint state coins are undervalued. IMHO, they are much more astecially appealing than the Kennedy halves.
I agree with GD... I said 66 right off the bat, although being a silver Ike, I wouldn't say it impossible that it only got a 65
I have a lot of trouble with the Ikes, Washington quarters, and Franklins. Once they show a little wear, everything looks F/VF to me.
Toss in Peace Dollars and you have my list of coins that I can't grade worth a darn. I think EVERYONE has a particular series or series' that they have trouble with. Some just won't admit it. This is one of the reasons I don't pursue these coins. I buy raw 99.9% of the time and if I can't reasonably grade it what's the use? Of course the few Ikes that I DO own are from Mint Sets. If they aren't unc then there's a real problem.
Well, I've worked on the IKe website but I need to add two more I have and need better photo's of. I was hoping to get a couple of high grade MS Ikes but they just sold for more than I care to pay for Eisenhower Dollars. So those two additions will be my complete set for a while. The new section is at http://www2.mrbrklyn.com/ikes.html
Very nice website. Well done and thanks for shaing! In case you are intersted, there's a brand new edition (2nd) of the Authoritative Reference on Eisenhower Dollars. It is a great source of info on the oft-overlooked series. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=110158312767 Hope this helps...mike
