Here is what mpcusa needs for a display case. 100 plus year old double door safe from the gold rush. This is at roaring gold camp. Roaring camp mining company.
I don’t except at coin convention exhibits. Having a big display in your house is almost like putting a sign on your lawn that reads, “A coin collector lives here.” That case of gold coins and nuggets is gorgeous, but I get worried about service people seeing the many books in my library.
That gold case in nice but I could open it in about 10 seconds. It has a $2 lock that is not even installed properly. I worry about people seeing my library as well. I don't worry about most of my coin collection. It's not stored at home. I don't display any coins.
It does not matter. If you have a home invasion with the crooks having guns drawn, you can open the safe or face something a lot worse.
This was the point. It's a display inside of a large safe in the recreation area at the camp. I'd say they close the doors up at night, just because. There is a lot of security around that you don't see and they live onsite...if I recall correctly 2000 feet down in the canyon, one way in and out. In someone's room it could be a furniture piece and hold a display case. Anyone that didn't belong there wouldn't know what's in it. Always better to have your stuff secured out of sight.
My apartment building is somewhat sketchy to say the least. I don't even like having things on me in my neighborhood. If it was ever discovered I'm into coins I'll be targeted for robbery. I have a po box in another town where things are delivered. And with no better option I use a climate controlled storage facility in yet another town that is indoors with coded entry and under surveillance 24/7. I have a fire proof safe inside the unit. Once my divorce is all done I'll use a safety deposit box probably. But with those you can only access during banking hours. I'm not crazy about that with coins.
