I acquired 1/2 my grandfather's collection in October, so my idea of upgrading right now is learning to appreciate coins and purchasing coins I like. I get rolls from the bank every week and I search through them for coins I like/don't have. I was changing a lot out for bigger better coins (two really) but now I want to hold onto everything until I get the Cherrypicker's guides and a coin grading book.

Thanks. Real life just kicked me in the seat of the pants, so I'll have to hit the pause button on collecting for a while, but this is still my goal. :)

Hey, hoarding and cherry picking can be lots of fun too.

I actually don't know much about cherrypicking and its something I haven't given much thought to except keeping the change and sorting it by decade for me to get to later.

Cherrypicking is examining many exact coins of the same grade and picking the best of the group. Not all MS65 coins are created equal.

I mean I know what it is...orI think I do. There is so much to learn...I completely agree, not all "xx" grades are the same. Actually it was pretty cool - today at my LCS I got a nice lesson in MS63 versus MS63.

4 of my Mercury dimes, one buffalo nickel, all my wheats that weren't my Grandfathers, and all my silver roosies have all came from the bank. Can't leave them out.
