I would love to live on my own....if I could afford to. I put my app in 2 dozen places, no one called me for an interview. I would love to move...if I could afford to. I would love to go to college, but with 50% of grads jobless (published fact), that doesn't sound very promising does it? I would love to commute to one of the bigger cities, but I cannot afford the gas to drive 100 miles round trip everyday. That's almost $300 a month, in gas alone. Factor in another 500 dollars a month, for renting a hole in the wall, that's $800. Remember, me alone, working 40 hours a week, at Illinois min wage, nets about $1000. With $200 left for food, utilities, car insurance, and necessities, that does not leave much left, actually that's not even enough money. You cannot earn a living on min wage. I know of couples, that BOTH put in 40 hours a week, and barely scrape by. My plan is to: 1. Get a job here, save up enough money to... 2. Move to a place that offers better jobs and go to: 3. College, and hopefully not become one of the 50% of college grads that need a job. BUT until I can complete Step 1. Until one of the places I put apps into calls me, I'm stuck at zero. A lot of the forum members are older, and back then, it was easy to get a job. Walk into any factory, and you had a good chance. This was in the 60s and 70s. I have several friends of my dad who will vouch for this. But a lot of those jobs moved to china, and now, there isn't as many left. In fact, there are 6 people per 1 job. Now out of those 6 people, a 20 year old, with No College Degree, is probably gonna be the last one chosen. It's a sad but true fact. All I can do is keep applying, and beat those other 5 people, and get a job. You can't walk out and get a job anymore. That might of been true 40 years ago, but it's not anymore.
