Yes, they charge so you have a great way to check if it was conserved. To my knowledge, there is ONLY ONE TPGS that often conserves coins from their customers for free if it raises the grade. Keep that to yourself.

No I am not. I'm stating the legal facts and then stating my preference. There is no protected freedom of speech on this forum because it is privately owned. But on principle, and for good reasons, I would support that the moderators not edit someones speech unless there is an overt rules moderation. I hope that clears this up for you. I will just repeat that I am not in favor of book burning and support free speech. The idea that the speech is defamation and illegal was someone else's idea, and that is just not correct. There is no illegal speech in the US. It might yet be defamation, but with current case law, and US Supreme Court rulings, you have zero chance of winning a case of defamation or libel in the US, based on this thread. Other countries are different.

15-20 years ago I had a coin with nice color I sent to NCS for conservation. I can’t remember what the coin was, but was the size of a dime and was from the 1840-50 time period.

I had previously showed it to a couple collectors who suggested it may have been treated with Deller’s Darkener to cover some distraction.

The conservation process completely erased the toning, which was a nice amber color (light in the center and darker toward the rim). Under all the toning was a scratch that could now be seen.

It might be possible your coin was treated with something similar. I had other toned coins that were sent in around the same time. This dime size coin was the only one to lose its toning or color.

    Don't get me involved. I don't care.
I am just hunting chances to post my brand of humor. It is not very good, but it is mine.
Besides, lawyer talk is boring, at my age, especially when the lawyer is talking.
Coin lawyering ought to have TPG and 4PG evaluation, before arguing on a coin forum.

All old people are fools, in my experience, and call younger people fools as a Rite of Passage.
    That is why Florida exists.

Bob, didn't you post that story on Collectors Society? I think I recall reading it "way back when".

I’m sure I did. I wonder if their archives go back to 2006 or around that time.

we will never known what happened all we can do is speak opinions which could be right or wrong or both

until someone at the grading company explains why we are just shooting in the dark with no real idea of what could, or did happen

    just IMHO

and freedom of speech comes with major issues in it self just know that overstepping that fine line can cause issues so tread carefully

There will be NO consequences from any opinions that have been expressed on this forum thread, and no threats. No lawyer or corporate officer for a profitable business is going to waste substantial time or money chasing a defamation lawsuit because of a post on the internet, particularly when they have no chance to win such a suite.

And the forum itself is protected under the law under the DMCA et al.

I want to say more, but that would probably step on the "no politics" rule here.

:facepalm::hilarious::hilarious::hilarious::hilarious: Well you are playing like one on the coin forum and since you are a lawyer, I simply asked you to answer some questions as I always herd from others (both lawyers and those playing like one) that anyone can be sued by anyone. How you thought that might mean I need a lawyer :wacky: does not register. I simply THANKED YOU FOR YOUR RESPONSE. Thanks again!;)

Again, any ignorant fool can post libelous statements. Hopefully they don't get away with it one way (Edit, Banned) or another (Sued, Shamed).

Wow 10 pages over this. They're not going to send it to NCS for conservation unless you checked it and paid for the service. It costs time and money to do it so they're not going to do it unless you ask for it.

Most people here, from experience buying online, realize pics of coins vary drastically depending on the lighting and often make them look like a completely different coin. Put enough light on a toned coin and it may not look toned anymore. Or if its at a certain angle.

Its very difficult to get a coin through there without problems. I have a few down there right now that I'm sweating. Almost everything not graded has some problem with it and it's almost rare to get something through straight graded. So the grade isn't a surprise at all. This is how it goes. Expensive lessons to help determine what not to send in next time.

I once told the Jumpmaster I have the Right to speak up.
He convinced me quite handily why I did not. No attorneys were needed in the corrective communication, only 2 Orthopedic Specialists, 1 Podiatric Surgeon, 3 Dermatologists (there was a lot of stitches) and 1 Plastic Surgeon.

I'm good. My mind has been right, ever since.

Yep, I did post earlier that I found the paperwork and I has checked the conservation not realizing what would happen to the coin. My fault, a costly one but won't happen again. I do have two other groups of coins that I sent in, one group coming back to me now and they are working on the others.
