The double headed bird with globe and sword were the dead give away.
Pretty common(4.5 million) - who would have thought they would mint that many. Worth between 5 to 10 USD

    eBay bait

Thanks Farmer. Guess this will become eBay bait since it's really nothing special and I'm trying to reduce the pile to true keepers.

    Challange Coins?

Dug down through the pile a bit more.

    Anybody know about challenge coins?

Got some things without dates and a pfenning from 1874, perhaps used as a shill to collect the drink offered to the bearer so poor he had one in his pocket when offered a challange coin.

Challenge coins are usually like an award. For example, the armed services offer many to soldiers who accomplish a given task, complete a class or school on a given subject. They can even be given for completing an obstacle course in a given time. The possibilities are endless.

Simple theory of it - I challenge you to do this. If you do it, you get this challenge coin to prove that you did it.
