This is along the same lines as a question that I asked a few months ago and didn't get a response to. My question was what would it cost to reassemble the Eliasberg collection. The other one in the running (off the top of my head) is the King Farouk collection. as for current collections I'm gonna guess that Contursi's is one of them, although I don't know if that fits your requirements since he is the owner of a dealership, but it might, I believe that he owns the King of Siam proof set as well as the finest known 1794 dollar (graded as a specimen strike) plus a unique 1787 Brasher Doubloon. Those 3 items alone are worth $12-$15 million!
well I have way to much crap in my collection (SQ's and 04/05/06 nickels) that I should get rid of but other than that, not much bigger or smaller than average
Not including bulk material, around 12,000 different pieces. Don't have an accurate count but will have a better estimate soon. We are currently entering the collection inventory into the computer and I seem to have even more pieces than I thought. Just finished the German Notgeld coins recently. I thought I had some 1,400 different pieces. Final number was just over 2,000 different.
102 - Complete Type Set (same number for years). I have just updated my Chain Cent to an XF40 - trying to get rid of anything below XF. Still - and don't take this wrong - SIZE DOESN'T MATTER. It is what you get out of however many you have.
I have the same deal as Alex, my family gives me everything they have. I have 1150 Wheaties, 2 Half Cents, 19 cents, 1 two cent, one silver three cent, one half dime, 1 V nickel, six buffs, including a cerrt MS-65! 10 dimes, 9 quarters, 2 capped bust half dollars, one seated half dollar, 2 walkers, 2 franklins, and two barbers, 11 morgan dollars including 3 CCs, 4 peace Including a 1921 2 Anthonys 4 silver eagles, one 1/10 oz GE, 1988 W comm $5, $2.50 lib head, $5 lib head, $10 lib head, $10 indian, 3 mint sets, 13 proof sets including 1999 and 2001. I'm looking to cut down on it and look for morequality than quanity so to speak.
Telling people about what you have in your collection isn't a good idea. It always attracts the wrong sort.
You do not have to try any more - just ship that old below XF40 bad coin to me. I have 100's of coins but nothing like a XF chain cent.
jefferson '38-'06 complete set (halfway complete a second one) and about 45 1982-P's lincoln '09-'06 only missing the s-vdb and s-'31 roosevelt '46-'06 complete (and real easy and cheap to get in MS) 25 Washingtons, mostly 50's with some 40's and two 30's 3 Walker Halves 5 Peace Dollars 12 Morgan Dollars 3 Barber Dimes 10 Barber Quarters 1 Barber Half 5 Large Cents 13 IHC's 5 Gold Eagles U.S. Capitol Visitors Center Commem Tri-set 13 Silver Eagles Complete Canadian Olympic Silver Proof Sets (32 Troy Ounce Proofs) 4 Roman Denarius (3rd century era) Half Complete Mercury Dime Set Eisenhowers and SBA's up the rear 15 Franklin Halves and the rest amounts up to a 7 lb cigar box of wheats, dateless buffalos, junk silver, and various curiosities ...and we cant forget the 50 state quarter collection, the set i will retire on!
To all you new collectors, just stick to it. Go for quality, not quantity. If you have a few bucks, try to get a decent graded coin. It will pay off for you in the long run. Save the silver US coins- when I started, they were worth about twice face value. Now you can get eight times face! Wish I still had them... It took a while, but my collection has about 200 premium (PCGS-NGC-ANACS) graded coins mixed in with the old and new gold, silver, & platinum. I still get excited when I can get a PCGS MS-69 anything! Have fun! Coins are beautiful pieces of history. Just think- that old, worn 1914 penny may have been in a GI's pocket in World War 1.
Ooooooh! That's what you guys have been talking about all of these years. Wait a minute let me check my pockets...Nope! Nuthin'. I'll get some tomorrow O.K? :mouth: :mouth: :mouth: :mouth: :mouth: :mouth: :mouth:
I bet the bank that there is some guy out there who has some of the rarest of the rare coins in the world and nobody knows who he is. Just my guess!!
lemme see...like a few lbs. of wheats, 20 buffalos, 20 morgans, 3 peace, 14 barbers, 10 S.Q. rolls, 10 ihc, 1 large cent, like 1/2 lb. junk silver, nearly 2 oz. in gold coins, 1 bust, 3 seated, 1 2 cent peice, 10 silver halves excluding barbers, and many more...I just bought 8 SLQs today for $64
i have around 10 indians, 900 wheats, 10 v nickels, 150 pre 1960 jeffersons, 1 barber dime, 10 or so mercurys, 5 pre 1965 rooslvelts, 5 buffalo nickels, 10 pre 1965 washingtons, $75 in statequarters, a roll of westward journey nickels, a bunch of pre 1970 lincolns, 2 franklin half dollars, 7 pre 1970 jfk halfs, 1 morgan, 1 proof silver esinhower, 2 1979 sba dollars, and to wrap it all up 5 sacagea dollars. i also have a big sentry fireproof safe to put it all in. and i've only been collecting 3 years! and i'm only 13!
I've about 200 tokens from all over the world. My US collection is by date and mm, and I've got almost all of the 1965 - present. I've got 5 proof sets (3 for my kids, 1 for me, and 1 to sell when the price goes through the roof), 2 mint sets, and a proof ASE for each year from 1999-preset. I've got 2 silver proof sets for each year from 2001-present. I've got about $50 in silver halves that I've pulled from boxes. I'm trying to put together a complete set of halves (including proofs) from circulation. Just last month, I got my 1/8 share of my grandpas silver hoard, which is about $500 face (including 3 rolls of dollars) of silver. He owned a gas station and pulled silver out of the till. I'm excited to start going through that so I can start building my US collection. Next, we're going to split up all of the proof sets and other misc tokens and commems he had. I have cataloged by country, denomination, date, and mintmark a bit over 4000 unique world coins. I've got about 50 pounds of bulk world coins that I need to get rid of. I love my world coins!!! I've got about 20 of US bills with unique SN (e.g. 00000001)!! My collection of graded or slabbed coins consist of .......nothing. I've got about 100 smashed pennies from all of our family vacations. (you can't beat a $.51 souvineer) I've got a bunch of rolls of state quarters, 2 rolls of each mint of sacs from 2001 - present, I've got about $150 of Ikes that I have no idea what to do with. I've got $1,305,893 in monopoly money.
I would have to agree with you. I know of a couple collectors in my area that have very extensive collections to say the least. One person I know has almost a complete US collection including colonials with obvious ones missing like unique and "only 2 known" and that sort of thing. As for my collection, I choose to remain silent and go with the previously mentioned amount of more than some, less than others.
Yeh, I will go with the others on this one, but with a little bit of a spin. More than a few, less than most.
Well I finally got everything into the computer and I can get a more accurate count. Seems I seriously underestimated in my earlier post. Not including bulk material, I have just over 22,000 different issues.
