Lol, the only time in my life I sold, and yeah, it was more of an adoption. TBH, if my wife hadn't been pressuring me on those I am pretty sure they would still be in the pile.
Agreed. There's a world of difference between someone who doesn't know or care about proper language, and say, James Joyce, who intentionally alters it for art's sake.
I saw a Yank use "meat" instead of "meet", recently. It received some good attention. Any of you text editors want to correct me, please do. Most of the time, we are unaware of our most amusing grammatical errors. I'd like to know where I'm writing funny. Aside from that, not following the rules drives some people nuts, if they are awake to notice. I'm guessing replacing 3 or 4 letters is ok, as per your asterisked text above? (kidding)
Hmmm, OK, can you tell me what exactly my post count has to do with anything ? Whatever your reasoning for the above comment, it doesn't change the fact that the statement I made is 100% true. Apparently you don't get it. You're not selling coins to find out they are worth. You are selling them to find out what mistakes you made when you bought them. And yes, believe it or not, a lot of people do learn from their mistakes. One of the most commonly made mistakes is not recognizing good advice when you see it or hear it. Even worse is not listening to good advice when it is given
The more posts, the higher the probability of repetitive phrases. Ok ...? Yes, and modesty can be a very attractive quality.
I try to use proper English, including punctuation, and I appreciate it when others do as well. The misuse of a comma or apostrophe here and there does not overly bother me. However, the misuse of words such as their and there and meat and meet, to,two and too etc., suggests much to me about the writer. I recently misspelled Manitoba several times while posting here on CT before someone was polite enough to inform me of my ongoing mistake. I appreciated this, as I don't care to look foolish by misspelling something I should know. And that's the point. Most of these grammatical errors are basic English and should be well known to anyone where English is their first language. Having said all of that, this is a hobby forum where we enthusiasts can come together to discuss our hobby. We shouldn't have to be overly concerned about our grammar or lack thereof (notice I said "overly"). BTW, y'all is an acceptable abbreviation for those of us from the South here in the U.S., and we use this word in our spoken tongue. And although I am a "Yank" in the eyes of a Brit or perhaps a Cannuck, I am no Yankee. I'm quite proud to be from the South and to be able to properly use the word y'all, the plural of which is "all y'all".
"n" or double "n" matters not to me. Heck, I don't even know what a Canuck (Cannuck) is besides a hockey player. Just sayin'. You people from the frozen North are a strange lot (no offense meant) with some real language colloquialisms that can drive a guy like me nuts, eh? You know what I mean, eh? Sorry for the misspelling my Canadian friends. Canuck it is!
It's 'toque'! What are you a Frenchman! As for the topic at hand I will have a proper post when I get home and am not trying to distract myself from work.
I have no problems selling or trading coins in my collecting for something I want more. There has been a few ancient & u.s. coins I didnt wanna part with, but I parted with them to get better coins or rarities that I had much rather have. I tend to have a focus more then as a kid and even when I got back into collecting. Im at a cross roads now to part with 1 or two more u.s. coins of mine just so I can get an Otho. Its either that or save up for 5 months and not buy a single coin, which is tough to do
Uhhh yeah. And the fact that I have been posting here for 11 years has nothing to do with it. But have I said it more than once, you bet. But I can probably count on my fingers how many times. So that's 10 or less out of 37,000 +. Yeah, huge percentage Modesty has nothing to do with it. All I did was borrow the comment and repeat it so I can take no credit for it. If memory serves, I think I read Q. David Bowers say it the first time. After that I saw where many others just as well known as he is said the same thing.
