A coin collecting buddy of mine has a early 1800's italy 5 lire crown sized coin.

The slab is photo certified coin institute, which became pci before it closed.

The slab itself has the photo on it...which IIRC, they used up until the early 90s.

Thing is...the grading company gave a grade of only MS61.

The coin is blast white..hardly any marks anywhere except for a couple very light and very short scratches on the back..

IF they are accurate, I wouldn't see the need to send it into pcgs, but if they are not, I'd think it's a 63..at least.

  4. I really like the coin and 63 seems right. Any chance it is cleaned? Dark around lettering. Looks like some abrasions on obverse around 9 o'clock.

Don't think so..the pics are not the best..did not have my camera with me, just my phone and it looks frostier in the photos then in hand.

Could the die cracks have lowered the grade ?
