Right, but the fact that most Swiss designs have not changed much in the last decades does not mean the older ones can be used. In CH these pieces are legal tender: 0.05 (5 centimes/rappen) minted since 1981 0.10 since 1879 (except 1918-19, 1932-39) 0.20 since 1939 0.50 (1/2 fr) since 1968 1 fr since 1968 2 fr since 1968 5 fr since 1994 (and also the 1968-84 issues) Christian
Swiss Great coins Siberian Man, as usual... and willieboyd, I have wanted a 10 or 20franc gold coin like that for quite some time. Still do. Irinia, beautiful coins again. I have some modern Swiss coins, including this rare 1901-B 1/2 franc(first two pics), fairly low mintage of 200,000, not the best shape of course. I also have quite a few 5, 10 and 20 rappen too, from 1900 on.... but none much earlier I don't think.... I have a 1941-B 1/2 franc, which has a mintage of 200,000 in my Standard Catalogue of World Coins for some reason.... but still has similar prices as the rest with 5x the mintage. I also have some nice Unc Silver 1/2 and 1 Franc coins from the 1940's to the 1960's, and a F or VF 1907-B Franc, mintage of 800,000...... a 1932-B 5 Francs and a 1965-B 5 Francs... I like the edge lettering on the 1932. I bought all these at least 5 years ago, when I first started collecting World Coins.
Everyone who has posted photos in this thread has some beautiful coins, but the ones in irina59 and Siberian Man's collections truly stand out as some spectacular coins. Thanks for posting them.
Here is one of my best $2 purchases at an auction. It was advertised as a 2 franc french coin and turned out to be a 2 franc swiss coin. What a rip off for me
you got to be kidding me? if it was France, price about $10, what you have here, Swiss, 1901 even in this condition, we are talking about $ 100, so afterwards, this is big question, who lost?
WOW. Irina59 is right, the mintage of the 1901 Swiss 2 Francs is just 50,000. Very low. My 2004 Standard Catalogue of World Coins lists it as being worth $200.00 USD in VF, $1250.00 USD in EF, $6500.00 USD in Unc. and 9 Grand in BU..... that is a well spent $2. Amazing find.
Thats great! I have a similar story...not quite as great but pretty darn good $7 and a little luck will get you a 1907! Mintage isn't the 50,000 of yours, but at 300,000 its one of the better dates. I like the condition its in too! I don't think the dealer had any idea what he had. Oh well...I'm happy!
20 Francs NOT a Vreneli I got this one just because it wasn't the standard 20-franc piece. Eventually I guess I'll have to pick up a Vreneli too. But my hat's off to Siberian Man and irina for really varied collections!
I used to have this coin. sold it for a profit. sure regret doing it. great design. will buy back in the far future.
