I am glad resolution is at hand! Usually communication can iron out differences before it blows up into a major issue!

No he didn't ask for additional pics. I am thinking about now putting MPEGs of the coin in my ads so everyone can see the coin at all angles and with different lighting. This would probably help to avoid situations like this in the future. :)

I had bid on a seller before who resorted to this. He had ok pics, but none that really showed any mirror like appearance. he added MPEGS at my request and the bids flew high becasue of that quality

Ok, home from work and now able to defend myself.

1st email to seller after receiving coin:

    Dan,
Received the coin this morning. It is absolutly unacceptable. The pictures shown are of this coin I agree, but they in no way shoe the flaws, unattractive toning and lack of luster. I am really suprised. Your auction states no returns, but this coin is NOT as represented and I want to return it Monday, please advise.
    Jack

    reply from Dan:
I don't quite understand, the coin is definatly prooflike and the peripherial toning is attractive ( at least to me ). I stand behind my grade of MS-65, you are going to have to point out the flaws you are refering to. I have had this coin for more than 6 months before I listed it in late May of this year, it is a nice coin and definatly worth what you paid for it. I do not accept returns so yuou are going to have to work something out if you are not satisfied.

    Reply back to Dan:

Dan, No hard feelings but the coin is not acceptable. I will pay all postage, all ebay listing fees and all commision fees. It will not cost you a dime. The coin is misrepresented as a MS-65. check my feedbacks, I do not mess around. Your pictures are very misleading. I have to go to a meeting tonight, I will check mail upon my return. I hope this can be worked out.

There is how I STARTED this mail and conversation. I feel the coin was ( as in post #57 ) worth $160 AS PICTURED. I DID pay close attention to what I saw and bid accordingly. I do not buy a sellers description, I use MY judgement as to the coins value. To receive the coin in person I was stunned and amazed. The coin is at best a slider/unc prooflike. I was very reasonable in my request to seller and basically was told to go take a hike, "I'll send you $30 check". Only at this point did I fly off the handle.

I hope to clear up the ACTUAL way this happened. I accepted sellers ofer of $45 today because thats all I seem to get him to do. He will not be honest and admit that the pictures were misleading. I bid on what I saw, not on what I got.

I believe the seller in his lack of experience meant well, as he probably was ripped off when he purchased this coin, and had to pass it along just to get out of a bad buy, and I was the sucker.

Comments anyone? I feel I was very fair, andI still feel I was totally ripped off. Them are not all bag or contact marks in the obverse fields, they are wear. The coin in person does not have that early 80's S mint luster either. This is a slider at best.

Thanks for letting me speak my side of this.

I have nothing to hide, I have even offered to take Daniel to the ANA show in Milwaukee so he can see some actual nice 80's Morgans and see what one looks like, after all, I will be at the show anyways, and someone needs to show this youngster the RIGHT way to participate in this hobby.

I also apologise for my nasty email, but after all I tried to do at first, THAT YOU FOLKS WERE NOT TOLD ABOUT, I was very frustrated with the seller..

    Hey Jack,
Do you have photos of the coin that you have in hand? I'm sure we would all be interested in seeing what you see also.

    Jack,
You can send them to: mailbox@varietynickels.com

I'm sure all of us and DJ are interested in seeing what you see...I've mailed the wrong coin before only to have the buyer tell me that I sent a lower grade one or something....maybe that happened....and maybe this is just a case of market grading. Each of us grades different and maybe this should be a good teaching point to all of us.

Speedy, I'll do my best to get you some pics, but the coin is still in the sellers holder, I do not want to remove it for obvious reasons.

I really am sorry that I came in like this, this seems like a great place, and the seller is a long time member here that I do not want to trash. I had no idea he was such a member in standing here. Can anybody understand my frustration ? " Bid on what you see..... I DID "

This is none of my business, and hopefully I'm not wrong to point this out, but because this has become a public issue... According to Ebay registration rules, you must be 18 to register an account... If I'm not mistaken isn't DJ a YN?

I enjoy having DJ around here, don't get me wrong, but where are his parents in all this? If they helped and co-signed for his Ebay account then should they be involved with the resolution as well. Not trying to open a new bag of worms.

Not to say a teenager can't grade a coin, I've seen DJ in action on this forum and he is usually pretty close - dead on in his grading... More than grading its comes down to the maturity and experience dealing with people...I just think there needs to be some bounderies and supervision when underage folks want to use the internet in this capacity considering the legal liability to the parents should a YN act inappropriatly (Not saying you did)... Which is exactly why Ebay has age requirements... Just my nickels worth..

Nothing to worry about there, dak. My ebay account is in my parent's name and my Dad has the password and all of my emails are forwarded to him.

I do the same thing, im only 13, but i use an account my mom made to buy a couple books back in '03. I use her debit account that she never uses, and i have a paypal account under her name too. I hope yall wouldn't report me to eBay for pointing this out, but i think its a great way to make some extra money. As for my take on the situation, i would have just gave the buyer a refund, so i wouldn't have to deal with the headache. Just my thoughts.........

This is going to be interesting. Dan, try to get to Milwaukee like I said. But whatever you do, just do whats right, thats all that can be expected.

me2...he offered to pay for shipping and fees, he didnt seem terribly unreasonable...it would cost him nothing to just take a refund...the buyer is simply not satisfied and to be honest...it seems to me he is not in the habit of buying and returning coins just to be difficult. I would just return the money and take the coin back and relist it...its just flipping to make a few bucks to try to eek a bit of profit anyway...he loses nothing.

But to arizona jack...I have to say...the listing pretty much said "Please view photos carefully, as the sale is final"....you should also consider that before bidding next time...I dont deal with people who dont mention a return policy. Which he doesnt...it is just easier to avoid situations like this...most good sellers will take returns.
