While I don't know the situation the two people involved in the transaction actually had as we only have one side of the story... The facts, opinions and speculation of the case as I see it... I beleive the Seller was well intentioned and would have satisfied his customer if given the chance. I have interacted with this seller before on other threads of this forum and he is a very genuine and likeable guy. I have concerns about how he sold a bunch of $1.00 coins and then started dropping the bomb shells (pricey coins).... (That was discussed on a different thread by this seller as feedback manipulation) The buyer is an experienced ebayer with an established track record. The buyer routinely buys coins The buyer has left over 200 positive feedbacks for his sellers, most praising honesty and accurate descriptions... And he has Only left 2 Negs (one for a bottle of fake perfume by calvin klein) and one for DJ and his "overgraded" Morgan... My opinion and pure speculation... I'll bet my peanuts against your walnuts that the buyer got a little mad, instantly emailed the seller with threats and accusations... The Seller gets defensive and mad, probally gets a little unprofessional in his reply... Both nuts are cracked at this point and file negs on eachother... Morale of the story... When you have a problem, be kind, courteous, and pleasant and maintain professionalism at all times despite emotions. Give sellers the chance to make it right. Avoid threats like "Send me a refund or I'll neg you" Calmly and politely state your case for why you are unsatisfied, state, your expected resolution, thank them in advance for their prompt attention to this problem yadayadayada... if they don't reply, make it right or otherwise try to remedy the problem... well then... thats a different story... Just my nickels worth....
reply Yes, I did leave a neg on this seller. Read my other feedbakcs left for sellers. This seller just plain insulted me, and the picture is absolutly not an accurate pic. I am working with seller for refund and a feedback withdrawl. Also note, the previous items sold were low end $1 coins, used to prop up the feedback numbers before he could slam out some scam. You will understand hopefully my anger in downright misrepresentation. Wow, I feel terrible starting off on this foot in such a great forum. Jack
reply Oh, the word I used was not a swear word but an initial, no harm meant. Good posts and replys here, I hope I don't come off as a jerk. An above quote was right on, nuts / nuts. AND, I DID NOT expect a $900 coin, I expected a $150 coin, not a $30 bargain box coin.
Jack, I Welcome you to the forum... I hope you enjoy it here, the folks here are helpful and knowledgable. I hope you reach a suitable resolution with your seller! -Aaron
Guess it's time to say welcome to the forum Arizona Jack! You may have noticed that we do go off on tangents here and really look into things. One hell of an opinionated bunch here but that's what makes it so great. Stick around. You'll have a lot of fun.
Ok here I am. Thanks for pointing the thread out to me ham and miguel. Please allow me to read through the thread and then I will post.
The coin pictured IS the coin you received. Also I find it interesting as to how you are telling everyone that I said it was DMPL. I said it was PL/DMPL. No offense, but it is absolutely ridiculous to say that it's XF/AU. There is not a smidgeon of wear on it and it is most definitely PL. Look at the photos that I took right after buying this coin off of ebay in late last year. This coin was not misrepresented and everyone, please understand my anger at wrongly being called a fraud and a cheat, especially in front of all of you. Please enlighten me as to how I insulted you, arizona. If anyone should be insulted, it would be me. You were downright rude from the minute you sent me a message after receiving the coin. Not to mention that the FB comments you left for me are untrue. I have never defrauded anyone, never scammed anyone, and I'm never going to. Also note: the previous items I sold were not all $1 coins. You'll notice I also sold a 1932 washington quarter and an 1887 DMPL morgan. I sold the $1 coins merely to get the 10 FB yellow star before I restarted selling more expensive coins as I had been doing on my other account that is now used for selling computers. There is nothing wrong with that that I know of. Every ebay account started out at zero. Would you rather I just started selling the more expensive coins right off the bat? I don't know why you had to drag this issue over to CT, but since you did I am most certainly going to defend my actions. I do not believe the item was misrepresented and as of yet you have not told me how it was misrepresented. Please tell me and everyone here. Thank you.
This is most certainly true. I was working with him just last night trying to come to a suitable conclusion of this matter. I went to bed and in the morning I had to go shopping with my Mom. I came back to my computer around 1:00 pm and found that I had been negged and had two extremely rude messages in my inbox. In essence, he told me to take a flying leap. Here are his exact words: "There you go, enjoy your profit and your feedback. If I see you selling more coins, I will email any bidders with pics of the coin as listed and then what you sent. Your a punk who gives Ebay a bad name. Send me my refund, I'll send back the coin and retract the feedback. Your choice." Feedback extortion and auction interference. Both against ebay rules, by the way. Even after all this I am still willing to work this out with him, but he needs to be reasonable.
Firstly, welcome to the forum Jack. Hmmm....This is an interesting issue. I'm not exactly sure where I stand with this right now. Could it just be some miscommunication? I'm curious for forum opinions on the grade of the coin in question. I do have to admit that the pic of the coin in the auction and the pic here look somewhat different.
It is the same coin from the auction. It seems that the pics on the auction page have a bit more contrast, darkening the fields and highlighting the details. Was there different lighting on the other set of pictures, DJ ? I can make those changes with photoshop, but I can't imagine you would do so. I hope you two continue mature dialogue and reach an understanding. We enjoy having you both with us.
Oh, I'm not saying that the coins were different, as they are definitely the same coin. I'm only saying that the pics do look different. Good luck to all parties involved in resolving this dispute.
As a matter of fact, I did use completely different lighting. For the photos I posted here, I took those in my porch with sun light. The auction photos were taken in my room with florescent lighting. Both sets of photos are the exact same coin and both show the same flaws and mirrors. I do not understand why he says the photos are misleading and that the coin was misrepresented.
I think the florescent lighting gave the coin an almost cameo type appearance. This may be what the buyer was looking at. I can see the mirror fields in either set of pics, but he may be hung up on the frosty looking details in the florescent lighting pics. Just a guess. Problems will always happen, the solutions we find shall define us as men.
I agree with rotobeast. But with the way the buyer handled himself, I am surprised the seller is still willing to cooperate.
I'm not going to take sides here on this topic---but I do want to point out something. Florescent lighting isn't something anyone should use when taking photos of a coin IMHO. That type of lighting in most cases hides bad marks and can show a coin as something it is not. The photos that DJ posted are WAY to big for me to view here on Dial-up so I couldn't see them so I can't comment. I do suggest that everyone be careful when viewing coins under florescent lighting. My dealer has florescent lights in his shop and whenevery I'm looking at a coin that I think might look funny I always take it over to the widows and check it out again....this has helped me big time. One suggestion to DJ is this---you need a return policy. Speedy
I'm new around here, but I do know eBay very well. I don't know how to post this without it seeming as if I intend offense, (which I do not) so I guess I'll just say it. I think the pics posted in the auction were intended to create the exact bidding response as it occurred. We all know that issue probably has the most PL/DMPL examples of any other Morgan. I have 4 or 5 myself. The final value of that coin is higher than it might (should) be due solely to the pics, which in my opinion was clearly the intent. Now, I'm not saying you don't have the right to post pics that show your coin in the best light, and to illicit the most bids...but I have to say that would feel the same way as the OP if I had bid on that auction and received the coin now shown much more clearly in the pics posted to this thread. If you didn't intend to slightly deceive with those pics...then why didn't you also include the pics that you posted here? They show the coin's flaws much better. It brings up some ethical issues, as to what you're obligated to post, and what you aren't...but I cannot agree with previous posters that the coin shows mirrors in both sets of pics. I don't know either poster, as some do here...so I'm not letting friendship or previous interaction potentially cloud my judgment. That being said...the e-mail the OP sent is completely out of line. Auction interference and his other threats are no joke. I'm not perfect, and certainly can't say exactly how I would handle it...other than I know I’d be mad...but $160+ is a lot of money, and the OP overreacted. My other thought is...why is your feedback so low? You obviously know a lot about selling on eBay...so, what happened to your other account? I might not be entitled to those answers, which I can certainly understand...but my cynical mind wonders if you had similar problems with your previous account. I'm definitely not trying to start a flame war and I know you may be angry with my opinion. If moderators declare that my feelings (and this subsequent post) on the subject are offensive and out-of-line, I apologize and will dampen my comments so as not to offend in the future.
