    Hey all,
    I recently purchased a tetradrachm of Seleucid IV. I wondered if someone could check it out to verify its authenticity. Thanks!

    What is the weight? I can't verify from this photo but I don't see anything wrong with this tet from Antioch.

    The weight is 16.83 grams and 29 mm in diameter. Thanks for your opinion!

    The style is correct, I see some surface abrasions possibly from aggressive cleaning, but I would say fine otherwise.

    Curious, why are you checking authenticity AFTER you bought the coin?

    If the price were a good one, i would have bought it for my own collection.

    Good point. If you're looking at a $15 bronze coin, good ahead and buy it. But your tetradrachm is a lot more expensive, so you should either:
    1) vet the coin beforehand;
    2) know the coin well enough to recognize a fake with a reasonable degree of certainty; or
    3) but only from a trusted dealer who will guarantee the authenticity for life.

    Please don't take offense; I'm not criticizing. I'm only trying to encourage good buying habits.

    Nice coin, BTW.

    None taken. I appreciate the advice! I was fairly certain the coin was real, but I haven't had any experience with this seller before so I wanted to get it checked out.

    Not an expert by any means but I certainly enjoy the show and tell and your coin is a beauty, thanks for posting it.
