I don't think so. He didn't really start making coins with his image until 6 months or so before his assasination. In fact, it was these coins that many believe led to the revolt and his assasination, since self portraits on coinage was something kings in the east did, not Roman senators.
History Channel != History or Facts History Channel = Entertainment No offense meant to anyone but in my opinion, television nowadays just caters to the lower intelligence out there, especially with all this reality crap that has taken over. I only keep up with two shows on TV currently, Breaking Bad and The Walking Dead, both for entertainment purposes only.
I generally only watch HBO dramas (THE WIRE! WOW!) and comedies. Even the older, more educational history channel became somewhat too simplistic for me back in high school.
I have some pictures of Coins in Movies on my website (below my signature). I'm up to over 40 films now, including some classics. There are a few anachronisms and mistakes, like Peace dollars appearing at an 1880's Cavalry post. I suspect that these kinds of errors are accidental, due to the pressures and deadlines of film-making and locating items (props) for scenes.
I didn't get a good look at that one, but is a scene in season 2 with Lucius Verus, I swear saw a coin like this lol.
I'm a little disappointed that this thread made it to page 4 without mentioning the movie Caligula. I am not suggesting you view the movie but you might get a kick out of the wiki article on it. Don't miss the parts on production history politics which goes a long way to explain how one can go from what could have been a reasonably accurate docu-drama to a jumble of monumental nature. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Caligula_(film) ...and let it be noted that the title coin which bleeds from the eye was not real or even close.
That was true at a certain time but they found mostly silver. The genocidal massacres of the America where only challenged by the German Holocaust. And that fails to account for the terrible conduct in Belgium and the Inquisition. Mandy
Really? The genocidal massacres were "only" challenged by the holocaust? So the pogrom's of Stalin, Mao's revolution, the utter destruction of every living being in entire cities by the Mongols, all pale in comparison? I am native american, but I recognize we weren't the first mass killing humans have ever been victims of. Russia and China were the sites of the two greatest massacres in the last two hundred years, not Europe or North America. Sorry just a pet peeve of mine that no one remembers Russia and China massacres, and lots of other historical ones. Of course the holocaust was horribly inexcusable for the Jews, Gypsies, mental patients, and many other groups targeted by madmen. They weren't, however, the "greatest" (read most horrific in number), massacres in history. Far from it.
I hated how in The Dark Knight Harvey Dent used a common Peace dollar(1922 I think). How do they not cast a 1921 for that role??? I think both sides were 22. Would have been cool for both sides as 21 or a 21 and a 28.
