I thought about that and looked it this last night. I see nuttin. High magnification with the scope. Ya'll are starting to make me see things now. I guess I'll find out when it gets sent to ANACS.
Now that you mentioned it. I just spent a half hour looking at VAM3, the only business strike die pair for this limited abount of mintage. Hard to make out doubling on a worn, polished coin even under magnification. There are matching die scratches in the cotton balls and between eagles legs where wear hasn't obliterated them. The 1 looks correctly aligned with the correct denticle. The coin is nasty ugly under high magnification. At this point I really don't know now.
I'm definitely rooting for you on this coin, but i wouldn't be surprised if it has been altered. You've got it in hand, so be as critical of it as you can and you'll probably see stuff we simply can't just through pictures. Fingers crossed that it just got a harsh polishing sometime a while back, for as bad as that sounds!
On the bright side, if authentic (unaltered) , I'd never haved owned it otherwise. Too expensive for this ugly a coin.
It's hard to say what ANACS says about it, could go details, genuine, or it could get altered. I would hope for a genuine at best.
Thats if they can identify the die marriage, if not it will get an altered slab. or maybe a genuine label, which means that it is useless to try and figure a grade, lets call it genuine or ungradable.
My nickname from birth is Skip. Not sure I could trust him. I have no idea what possessed me to use my legal name as my screen name.
