Holey crap. Nice. I have a lot of holes early type I throw in my interesting but not valuable early silver drawer here’s an example
Used to have a 1794 cent that looked just like that, only the hole was at the top. Nice piece. I like the easel treatment.
Gorgeous surfaces. Without the hole would be part of my close held permanent collection. A buddy found in a house cleanout. I gave him a grand for it. He went and bought another hunting rifle he’d been wanting I rode with him to get it. And then I took to a coin show a couple weeks later and flipped for $1200
In the unlikely event you come across a similar one, I’d be a buyer at $1250 . Seriously though I’m dying to get a Pine or Oak Tree for my Colonial set.
I only have one. Found in the pulper clean out pit at a recycled newspaper paper mill. Lots of odd stuff ends up in stacks of old newspaper.
The possibility of treasure was the reward for a really nasty job. There were lots of stories about what was found in there (gold and silver jewelry, currency could survive enough to exchange at a bank) but it was few and far between. Lots of history with these holey coins for sure.
I never think that about a holed coin that otherwise is in excellent condition. The reason the coin is still in excellent condition is because it was holed and taken care of.
It’s not impossible i have a friend with a really nice oak tree he found taking down a house. But i offered him a lot more. Than that for it. They do turn up. I’m wanting one myself. But want an eye appealing clean problem free one. I’ve had and seen a few that were bent as witch pieces. With of course the price adjusted I did have one clean example. But sold it.
