I'm just curious what date this looks to be to other people. 188? Sometimes I see 1886, other times 1887. Thanks! CAM00389.jpg CAM00393.jpg CAM00391.jpg

Well, I would say pick one. It doesn't really matter at this point.

    Probably 1867. Probably NOT 1887.

65 to 89 - I'm guessing 87 but the pictures are not that good and the damage likely makes it a moot point.

    Good Luck

Photos are really blurry, but I am confident it ends with a 7. I think 1887.

Even with my poor eyesight, when enlarged, there appears to be a right hand rounded curve on the top of the last digit. But if 1886 then someone ruined a proof coin as that was the only way they were issued that year. It also looks like a dug coin from the damage.

I'm in the 87 camp but there is an 87/6 for this series

I am going to go with 1887.

The top of the third digit does not appear to be wide enough to be an 8 and I see what appears to be the curl and ball of the top of a 6.

After comparing date size and shape from Internet pictures to this one, and looking at the distance from the last digit (definitely a 7) to the bust, I have determined that this coin is an 1867.

If you think I'm just making assumptions, look at the two only "plausible" dates.

The date of the 1887 is:
    1. Too large
    2. 7 doesn't have the right shape
    3. Mintage of 5001 circulation strikes and 2960 proofs, making it very rare

There isn't a snowball's chance in Venezuela that this coin is an 1887.

Now that I'm home and can look at this specimen on my pc, it's is a 67.

After seeing the mintage for an 87 and what they go for, it is officially a 67 going on my keychain. The 6 and 8 are darn close though. Making people see a 5 instead of a 7, nice. It makes me hope to find an 1887 at a yard sale or something someday, I never knew they existed before yesterday.
