Is there a ban on melting them? If so, are they still worth hoarding?

Coins are always worth saving if the bullion value exceeds face value. It doesn't matter if they can be melted or not because coins are one of the highest and best uses of copper [and silver and gold]. Normally, melting should be considered a decrease in value, not an increase. But many people can't see this point.

I hoard the older Canadian cents and the nickels too however not for smelt value. Canadian nickels from the 20's are worth some decent dollars and they look good too!

Question - is it illegal for an American in the states to sell copper Canadian cents, or other foreign coins, to metal buyers or smelters here in the US?
