    1) It should be a reeded not lettered edge.
    2) It should read: "50 CENTS" not: "FIFTY CENTS" on the reverese.
    3) It has the typical pre-1836 reverse style.

    So it's fake, right?

yes, it's fake! It is a lettered edge half from 1838. Only problem is, they stopped minting them in 1836! IMHO it's a great copy, made me look at it before I noticed. Never expected a gold mine from it... just fun!

I got a good beast photo, except I don't want to post a pic of myself on here. :D Going through my collection, sure I have some coins that are funky looking. In the words of the Terminator, "I'll be back" :D

    I'll keep that in mind.
I think I'll hold on to it for a while though.
    ;)

Thanks mark_h for complimenting my coin and starting this thread.
    :)

Oh, and here's a little one to go with the other.
    :D

While coins can degrade into slugs or be manged/scratched, you have to look to the currency auctions to find some really funny descriptions of some of the notes which have been stained, ripped and torn, taped, glued, etc. There are some really nice notes which... aren't looking so nice. Some are so rare that they get a pretty good price regardless of their sad state.

I saw that auction! Better than the auctions that say "rare 1866 nickel high grade" with a picture like that.
