Just so you know, I've never found anything older than 1916 in a coin roll. Until now.

I was opening a bwr of pennies, and didn't expect anything other than the random wheat cent. The paper around the roll had an outline of a coin, and thought it might be a broadstrike or something. But when I pulled it out... It was an Indian head! And from 1869 to boot! Never have I found an Indian head in a roll, and this was like finding a treasure. I know some of you who go through coin rolls more often than me have probably found their fair share of Indian heads in rolls, but this was my first and I was really happy to see it.

And as I understand, this is a rare date at $85 in Good condition. Too bad mines in Poor.

Its really beat up, but I'll take it any day.

A decent 1869 at a fair price has eluded me. I have been searching for one for almost two years, now. The last one I bid on sold for over $600.

At face value, I'll accept an 1869 in any condition! :)

Heck, my best IHC find was a roll at a pawn shop, and I had to pay twenty times face value for them.

I once found a 1909 VDB in a roll of cents. Congratulations on your IHC find, in any condition, it's a keeper.

I once brought home two rolls of nickel from a bank. In one of the rolls I found two knock outs from an electrical box.

I have been lucky finding IHs. I have 2 of 13 different IHs and 4 1907. Many of the coins were given to me when my father passed. My brother wasn't into coin collecting, so he sold me his share. The only IH I am missing is ... you guessed it.. the 1877. The one's I have seen are either too expensive or not for sale.

I promise you as a CRH'er myself - if you go through many many hundreds of thousands of cents you will find IHC's. I have found about 36 of them, from 1865-1907. In the span of one week back in 2014 I found two 1858 FE cents, beaten up but still identifiable. One was in a CWR, the other in a BWR.

Crazily enough my prized find because of rarity and value is the 1925 George V cent from Canada - it is an EF in grade and worth about $50 or so.
