The Atomic Age&nbsp; would again affect the entire world, as countries would be pulled into a Cold War lasting decades.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>Some Key Dates</p><p>May 8[SUP]th[/SUP], 1945 - Germany surrenders to the Allies. </p><p>July 16[SUP]th[/SUP],1945 - Trinty Test, the first detonation of an atomic bomb.</p><p>August 6[SUP]th[/SUP] and 9[SUP]th[/SUP], 1945 - The world would see the detonations of two atomic bombs in conflict.</p><p>Sept 2[SUP]nd[/SUP], 1945 – The war officially ends</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>I selected 1945 because I have currently been learning/looking into my wife’s Grandfather’s role in World War II. He flew 28 missions over Europe all during 1945, for the 401[SUP]st[/SUP] Bomb Squadron, in the 8[SUP]th[/SUP] Air Force. The 401[SUP]st[/SUP] flew 254 missions out of an airbase located in England. My wife’s grandfather’s B-17 went down over Germany on mission 252 on April 18[SUP]th[/SUP], 1945.
