typical Ebay stuff. I see alot of that and I get alot of them fixer upper coins pic to get you suck into buying that. I too had some coins I've bought from Ebay and got coins that have been cleaned or dip. Too many of them sellers out there. Ebay don't care about that. It is all about the funds that Ebay makes. But just to let you know Bust Halves are not cheap these days and so for around $65.00 is not too bad I would think. Most of the Bust coins you buy from dealers have been clean in some ways. To get an unclean Bust will cost you alot of money and if you are willing to spend the dough, then I would get one that have been Slab just to protect yourself and when you sell it as well. These days there are too many so call dealers that don't know much about coins (grading and so on) trying to sell you something. Sometime you get lucky to find a seller that doesn't know much and you get the better deal from your end. Well good luck with that Bust you have.
avi400, When you bid on ebay you enter into a contract, to which you have agreed to the terms of the contract.(return policy, shipping,etc.).If you don't like the coin after you receive it ,you simply ARE required to go by the terms of the contract you entered into and return it before 7 days. When you entered into this contract you agreed to PAY all shipping. So,Quit whining, honor your part of the contract and send it back. The seller owes you nothing more.
I think AVI , with regards to this post , has received sufficient direction on how to handle this situation. Any further comments would simply be redundant , and however he chooses to proceed in this matter , right way or wrong way , the experience will last a lifetime either way. Hopefully he can get to a point of appreciating the learning curves of this hobby.
I too have been on ebay for over a decade. Mark, You have not lost any customers because of this tirade. I think that you have been fair in your responses to resolve this issue. Maybe you cold of mentioned in the description that the coin was darker than pictured but.... You have been added to my sellers list and I will be watching for other items you have up for sale. In over 10 years on ebay I have been ripped off twice by buyers because of me trusting them to return items and got bit once as a buyer by a Powerseller who uses stock phots but does not divulge that information. ( I purchased 4 - Gem BU Franklins that would of graded XF at best.) I think your return policy is excellent. To the original OP. send the coin back and move on. If I were Mark and you did this to me I would certainly have far more to say about you and your little tirade than Mark has said here. $40.00 for sadness? :rolling: Actually Mark has a 7 day return policy. If he does not have the coin back by now I would say you own it and learn to live with it. Mark. I don't know you, Never heard of you before this but based on what I see here. Stay your course. PS... I just went back and looked at the original pics. I remember seeing this coin and passed because of the reverse under the word United. Looked to me like there was some crud on the coin at one time, (small dimple) and whoever had it used a sharp object to scrape it off. O-122 I believe.
Hi, well thank you for the support. It has been a very long week with several sleepless nights for me but hopefully the worst is over. I think the worst of it was getting over the negative & people thinking I deliberately tried to deceive my buyers with my photos(which was not the case, Please see my 1st post on 2cd page here). For AVI, take all the time you need to send the coin back, your refund awaits you! This has all been a learning experience for both me & the buyer and knowledge is power. I will certaiinly be revising my wording in future auctions and will be adding extra photos of coins that are deeply toned like this coin. Thanks again for all your input! Kind regards, Mark
First off it is very hard to get a good photo of a coin. I have taken pictures of coins and I never have gotten them to look as good in the pictures as they do in hand. When I buy a coin I look at the coin and know that the coins color is going to be different in hand than in the picture. Mark you tried to do right and I added you to my ebay sellers list. Doing the right thing is what is important in this situation you offered and well some people just can't be pleased. Just know you did the right thing. Ice
I don't think you did anything wrong Mark, and this "give me an extra $40 or I'll leave bad feedback" is nothing short of blackmail. Who's to say he doesn't do this to everyone... frankly im surprised more people haven't vocalized opposition to AVI doing that. If someone had tried to pull that with me... I wouldn't have been so polite when I told him where he could stick the coin.
Hi Lostdutchman, well not to get off base to far from the subject but when eBay first put their "Buyers ONLY can give a negative or neutral feedback" rule into effect I was getting blackmailed and extorted all the time. Example: "I do not like this coin I bought from you! You will give me a full refund or I will give you a negative(and keep coin)". I voiced my anger with eBay which did nothing about it and I ended up paying the extortion refunds. I soon closed my store on eBay and moved to another auction site(eBid). It turned out this new site was way way worse than eBay and extortion was an everyday thing. I truely think this site(eBid) is where all the people that have been booted from eBay over the last 15 years go. I then returned to eBay earlier this year and have been pleasantly surprised that this is the 1st attempt since my return. Anyone who has sold or selling on eBay since these rules where put into effect is really putting a noose around thier neck. We are at the buyers mercy and eBay won't do a damn thing to help a seller. Right now I have nearly $300 worth of unpaid auctions over a month old and the buyers will not respond to my messages. So do I file a complaint of "non-payment" with eBay so the buyer can neg me for ****ing him off with the complaint? Nope, I just eat it.and relist. So it does me no good to get mad as every seller on eBay has to deal with it. Thanks for your insight, Mark
UPDATE: Well I just finished speaking with eBay regarding having the negative removed that AVI gave me but they said NO that demanding an extra $40 or else. is A OK in their book. So I have offered AVI the extra $40 to have him remove the feedback. So, I guess I was wrong and AVI was right! What an upside down world we live in. Regards, Mark
eBay saying that "$40 more or else" was A-OK........... That reinforces my decision to stop using the site. My opinion on this thread...........top notch seller meets bottom-feeding buyer. I'd take the negative and kindly ask the buyer to fly a kite. As previously stated Mark, you have enough positive feedback where this wouldn't be the end of the world.
Mark I wouldn't give him the money. I am going to try and buy something from you this week I believe in you and your products and your service I'll Leave postive feedback. Ice
Hi Buffalohunter, Normally I would agree with you but there is a reason for my decision. You see if eBay leaves the the negative then they do not give me a 20% discount on my eBay fees so in turn they make more money. If a seller maintains a 4.9 detailed seller rating in all categories then they qualify for eBays largest discount of 20% which is what I had before the negative. Getting my 4.9 rating back will save me hundreds of Dollars verses giving up the $40. So by giving AVI what he wants to remove the feedback actually helps me more in the long run. Ebay is a heartless evil company plain and simple & my war is now with them. Kind regards, Mark
Welcome to the forum Mark! I think you will find most of us are happy with the return policy on the auction and that should have been good enough for the OP. I think also you have done the right thing just offering the refund. Sorry to the OP not looking to offend, but I think it is unfair to ask for more than your bid. To me eating the shipping costs(both to and from the seller) is part of the risk on ebay. I think about that long and hard before I bid. Also you have to give everyone time to find this post - some of us don't make it here everyday. Well some of us try, but not always possible. Plus I must have missed it. On a side note - before posting a coin on ebay, you might try our open forum first. Of course you have to have 10 posts before using it. It might save some ebay fees.
Mark did nothing wrong. Sure the pictures weren't top notch, but there is no reason to flip out on him and leave negative feedback. Avi, you really need to get over yourself and look at the big picture here. Oh my god! I just realized you would be out like............LESS THAN $10!!! That's only if you took him up on his offer to give you a FULL REFUND!! What a shame he didn't give you $40 FOR NO REASON!!!! Get over it.
I've done plenty of buying and selling on eBay, and here are my 2 cents: I agree with the SELLER'S position 100%. Why? 1) He has a 7 day, 100%, no questions asked refund policy. If the buyer has a problem, and this is the first in over 3000 transactions that does with this seller, he gets his money back. Many sellers on eBay don't even have refund policies. 2) I can't believe that anyone looking at the photos of the coin on eBay couldn't figure out that the coin was darkly toned. He mentions toning all over the write up of the coin and aside from the bright white glare the coin is clearly dark. A few bucks for a return mailing is a cheap lesson.
Right on... I read this entire post again, after un-subscribing to it... This is ridiculous... $20 USD for sadness.... $40, for all this nonsense... Seriously, it was quite simple, and no reason to leave a negative feedback! All you had to do was say, I want my money back, and you won't believe this but, AVI, YOU WOULD HAVE GOTTEN YOUR MONEY BACK!!! It is said, that some people's perception of this seller is bad now, because of this one thread... Sorry Mark, I'm with you 100%
Some people might have a lower opinion... but not many. In fact, it seems the seller's esteem has taken a net overall increase. :thumb:
Well the ones who understand ebay, buyer and seller, will understand that the seller is not the bad guy here...
Thanks Guys for the kind words and support! I think most understand that I did not deliberately try and deceive anyone! ML
