As you know I always ask first because it’s not a cheap purchase. It graded damaged 98 AU but I don’t know what the damage could be. I don’t see anything wrong but then again there must be something. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Is that scratch going through the left wing, to the left of the "R" in "Pluribus", on the slab, coin, or a die crack? Also what about the one on the opposite side of the eagle, on the other wing in the same place. I don't see any big damage on it, not sure why it graded as damaged, maybe crack it out and resend it in? Beautiful coin!
Thank you coinman I’m trying to get it now. I swear THIS really is gonna be my last coin! Hehe Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Well I just bid up to $2200 and still didn’t get highest bid. My heart is still beating. What a rush. How much is it worth? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Who said I didn’t have ANY idea? I look at these coins everyday. I knew it was worth at least $2200 because I bid that. Now I will admit I don’t know if it’s still worth $3500 to $5000 even with the “damage” grade. So I ask? You get what I’m saying cpm9ball? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Last coin, lol. The corrosion on the breast is the damage they're talking about. This one's going to sell for a so-to-speak "pretty penny." Just look at the depth still left on her. I can get why you're chasing her. They have to notice those pot marks, though, somehow. No collector in their right mind is going to be turned off by the details grade. Just my humble opinion.
And in the fields, and the hair, and basically scattered all over the obv. As to what caused them, hard to say, nor does it matter. All that matters is that they are there and the coin is indeed damaged. As to value, welllllllll, that's gonna depend on the one bidding. Everybody has their pet peeves and what bothers one a lot may not bother another much at all. But in my opinion a problem coin is a problem coin and thus value is always going to be but a fraction of what a problem free example would be. I would not have bid as much as the OP did.
Code 98 stands for " any metal movement " . The following codes summarize the various problems that preclude a numerical grade by PCGS: 82 Filed Rims Rim(s) and/or edge is filed. 91 Questionable Color Any artificial re-toning – dipped copper. 92 Cleaning Harsh cleaning or polishing. 93 Planchet Flaw Generally large – prominent flaw(s). 94 Altered Surfaces Any applied substance (wax, putty, lacquer). 95 Scratch(s) Large – prominent scratch(s). 97 Environmental Damage Corrosion, excessive toning, verdigris. 98 Damage Any metal movement.
Some of the marks on the reverse appear to be raised. Rusted dies maybe, but that wouldn't explain the details grade.
