I would rather hunt for them at coin shows........the bigger the better!

I only trust a limited few eBay sellers.

The coin stores in my immediate area aren't worth squat.

I hate having to factor in the BP for the major auctions, but it's a necessary evil. I would rather be able to apply that expense toward a better coin.

I like smaller shows personally 25-75 tables is just about right.

You tend to get more dealers who are small time... or just advanced collectors and sometimes you can get really good deals and nice stuff from them. The bigger shows are picked over pretty quickly. BUT it really all depends on what kind of coins you are looking for.

Experience has shown me that the coins at the head of my wantlist (and in the grade I want them) don't show up at the mid-sized shows.
Actually, after several years of looking I'm going to have to bite the bullet and buy them raw HOPING I can detect cleaned coins.
I believe I can grade them well enough but cleaned coins can be a problem for me.

But I DO agree that you can get some nice deals at the smaller shows.
Sometimes these dealers find they are having a hard time selling certain coins, and that's ties up their money.
I got a nice 1862 $1 gold at greysheet Bid under those circumstances.

My dealer fills my requests for the most part, then after that I like shows with 25-50 tables.
