As it is imaginary money I think my choices are somewhat limited. Not sure what bitcoin is selling for now but I guess I may be able to manage to get 0.01 bitcoin for it. So my answer has to be a bitcent. Seriously, though. Probably the best 2/3/5 mark coin I need and could find from the German States of the late 19th century.
I chose to use the 100.00 to purchase books, because books are cool. For just under 100.00 I got: Modern Japanese Coinage Greek Coins And Their Values Volume II Asia and Africa Rise Of Parthia In The East Ancient And Medieval Coins (180 books on DVD) Not technically in your category though, but books are important
The 6 were advertised as 'mint luster'. The 3 were advertised as 'probably cleaned'. I'll let ya'll know once I get them.
I'd buy some ancient silver. I've bought a few lately and possibly have posted them too many times. Lol
Dang! If you hadn't put "imaginary" in there, I was all set to PM my address to you. Best wishes for the holidays! Chris
I was thinking the 6 look pretty good to me. They don't appear polished at all but instead have the apparently original type frosting? I didn't look at the 3 as the 6 looked so nice. Recently I did buy two coins for around $100 each but need to photo them.
This one intrigued me. Per Numismedia, the 1853-O trends $43 In F12 and $150 In VF20, retail. It's a fairly big jump. If one has a $100 budget, it seems the smart play would be to try to find a F15 coin as close to VF as possible, for as close to F12 money as possible. I checked eBay. There were 1853-O quarters under a hundred bucks, of course, but I didn't like any but one. This one. At $79.95, it's not a red-hot rip at the price, but seems a not-too-crazy retail price to me, if you like the coin as F15. A TPG might only go F12 on it, though, which makes eighty bucks a tad steep. However, the coin looks appealingly original and unmessed-with, unlike most of the rest I saw. As of this post, that's the best 1853-O quarter in two-figure territory I saw. The seller is completely unknown to me. So not really a hardcore recommendation, per se- but perhaps a nod. I was just exercising my own curiosity because I like that midgrade 19th century type stuff (The sort of stuff that's bread and butter to folks like the Dansco 7070 collectors.)
Funny you should mention it. This $98 purchase showed up Saturday. This is a Moroccan 10 Muzunas, graded MS-63 BN (It is slightly smaller than a US half dollar). It really should be RB, but whatever. There is a small lamination at k11 on the obverse. These are quite hard to find in high grade.
First off, thank you for the dream. There are several coins on my want list at the moment and they aren't hard to find, but are hard to find appealing to me. one in particular I saw in auction and had decided what I would give for it. I missed the end of the auction because of work, and found out later that it sold for $100 less than I would have gave. I'm not strapped for cash and have the money saved for what I want, so patience is what I need. Anyway while I was dreaming of what I would spend a gift of $100 on, the only thing that came to mind was Saint Jude.
I'd try for a nice barber half for my type set album. Or even a seated liberty, but that's pushing the budget.
