I have not used e-bay since last year, I used to buy/sell hundreds of items every month. For now I use alternate means and will only use e-bay if I need immediate funds.

Its to bad ebay started out a fun place to shop and buy & in the early days there were many fantastic buys on antiques and collectables. Now I really feel sorry for the sellers who are being hammered by both buyers & ebays new execs who I think will run it into the ground. I sold and bought on ebay for over 10 years & now many of the great sellers and a lot of buyers are gone. I closed my account a while back , just got sick of their new rules and regs., life is to short to put up with their internal problems & lack of leadership. I'am hoping a new site will come along & give people a great place to both sell & buy. I've known a lot of fantastic sellers who were honest & trustworthy & have moved on, which was a great loss for ebay.

Ebay only removed you to be able to advertize in the auction anything except for paypal, you always have the right to ask the seller if they accept any other forms of payments, I do it all the time, in fact I just ask one today and they said it was fine for mail payments, save they paypal fees and you just go to the side of the auction and pull down the list and mark "payment sent", just FYI

I have been disappointed by the weak protection you provide the e-bay buyer,I have been ripped off twice and received very little help from the organization in retrieving the money or merchandise,This has caused alot of people to look elsewhere for gold and silver

Sorry to here that sjnaum , I never sold coins on ebay & only bought a few, for me to risky. You know on ebay now you have the sellers over the barrel, remember if they rip you off or will not return your money you can always leave negative feedback:bigeyes: and file a complaint, that alone should make them tow the line.

No where does it state you must have funds in your paypal account. What it states is that if you owe a buyer money back they will now have the right to take that money out of your paypal account or your bank account listed with them to pay back the buyer you owe money back to. In a nut shell, they are saying that they will come after you any way they can to refund the buyer if they find that you wronged the buyer.
I do not have a problem with this change and I am sorry for anyone that is upset out there because they can not get away with wronging buyers :)

I agree no more, I've been selling on ebay for years and to be honest people just don't want to pay even close to what it's worth if you even list it under book price. So you end up paying ebay so you lose money everytime it doesn't sell and you risk sellig and loosing money if you start the price to low. And now they want my money to set in paypal who gets the interest from that? uh paypal!!!! enough is enough.

I recently had a really good set of sales on ebay, sold 16 out of 18 listed items and they went for about what I wished them too and even a couple for more. I made sure to run a check of the auctions ended on each item to make sure that atleast a few sold recently for about what I wanted and only listed items that were currently popular:hail: Did pretty well on that front.
No where does it say that I have read that you must leave money in paypal. All I have read is that if you OWE a buyer money back and assuming you haven't cooperated with E-Bays wishes for you to return it, that they will come after your paypal first and than any banks you have listed with your account.

That is what I was wondering. It just appears to extend the buyer protection from PayPal to all forms of payments with the added teeth that will allow them to get the buyers money back if they feel a complaint has merit and the seller isn't willing to comply. If anything, I figured the sellers here would be angry at the new policy concerning counterfeits.

This is what I believe and it makes perfect sense, being that Ebay owns paypal so they should merge there tactics:cool:

I am not really upset about the change persay, I am upset because there is NO protection for sellers AT ALL. If you as a buyer say "I didn't recieve my coins" or "they were significantly not as described", I as the seller am going to lose no matter what.

I have seen a couple of shady buyers and when I lose 1¢ to one of these claims I am done - buying, selling, looking, everything on ebay. To date I have been fortunate enough to prove to these dishonest buyers that I can prove what was sent and that they recieved it. That combined with the promise of any and all legal recourse from my side (no matter the cost) has detered them from pursuing such claims. I have contacted eBay about each of these instances and suggested ways to protect sellers. To date eBay has done nothing to protect the seller and unless they change something soon the can change the name to used-to-ebay or eGone.

This is something that i dont understand , what you describe happened to me as well.I paid by cheque which got cashed but never got the coin.
By the time ebay got around to me the seller had closed the account.
Some time after for whatever reason i decided to close my account and was told its a mandatory 30 days before its closed.
So how did these sellers manage to close thiers so quick ?

I agree that buyers need protection. However, Sellers need it too and PayPal is not protection since it is undone as easily as it is done...

Let me give you a specific example:

I sold a box of 2009 pennies to a buyer. The buyer recieves them then sends me an email claiming that the box was shorted several rolls and that there was several things (trash) in the box that should not have been. In this case I know he is lying; however, I am to a large degree unprotected. The only protection I have is that I was fortunate enough to pack the box in front of a Postal Clerk I know and had a reciept to prove the weight was correct. If the Buyer wanted to take it to eBay/PayPal I would have almost certainly lost. Add to this that I spoke with one of the previous Sellers to this Buyer who claims that the Buyer tried the same trick with him and I MIGHT have a chance at winning with eBay/PayPal, albeit slim.

Now, all that being said, I want to stress I think both parties need protection. I also realize that it will be hard to find a balance. However, when eBay removed the Seller's ability to rate a Buyer they stuck it to the Sellers. At this point, I would say a dishonest person could easily steal thousands upon thousands of dollars in goods from various sellers with ease and eBay/PayPal would basically grease the skids for the Buyer.

I just made 2 coin purchases on ebay and wouldn't you know, he is a local seller.
I am going to pick them up tomorrow.I offered to pay him in person to save him $ on the seller fees. He agreed.

    That is a good question.
Perhaps they put in the notice of 30 days, and never intended to send your coin.
