Unfortunately, I slept through the AMCC auction on December 1st because I have a nasty cold. I saw this coin on biddr before the auction and wanted to throw in a bid. After the auction I noticed that the coin had not sold. I contacted @Severus Alexander and today he told me the coin is mine. I already have a coin of Henry V-a penny, but I have wanted a groat of his for some time. Here is my penny And here is my newest acquisition. Thanks to both @Severus Alexander and @TheRed . I've got a Henery VI groat Didn't mean to crash the thread just fell in love with this hammered coin at first sight. I haven't another...
Coingrats on that Saaweeet new (old) penny. That's class right there folks. Henry V really bridged a gap between Plantagenet and Tudor lines and is one of the primary reasons that we are communicating in the English language right now! My medieval team is woefully understaffed. Here's a few (pretty much the whole team) highlights: King Edward I 1280 CE Longshanks medieval Period Silver Penny Coin.London Richard III 1483-1485 CE, Silver Groat, type III, London mint, crowned facing bust, within tressure of nine arcs, large fleur on six cusps, initial sun and rose 3 both sides, rev long cross pattée, tri-pellets in each inner angle, twin concentric legends and beaded circles surrounding, 2.71g (N 1679; S 2157 QueenElizabeth I 1567 CE England Tudor Period Silver Threepence Coin
Thank you so much. As you can see, it wasn't about the eye appeal on this one. My dad knew how jazzed I was on getting a Henry III and surprised me with the lil doozy last Christmas.
Excellent! Having come of age in the 1980s, I think of Kenneth Branagh's Henry V rather than the classic Laurence Olivier.
It's a very nice coin, and Henry V groats are tough to find. Since I don't have a Henry V, but Richard III came up, here's my RIII penny (never shown before): Durham, SCBC 2169.
I need to get busy and take some pictures. I only have a few photos and you guys are probably getting tired of seeing the same ones.
Congrats on getting the coin @Orfew I'm pleased it is going to you. You have built a really nice collection of medieval English coins. I wish you the best in your quest for Richard III, he is tough to get without spending a lot of money. I'll add a Henry III penny I recently picked up. It was labeled as struck in London, but it's actually an Oxford penny.
Thanks @TheRed It will have a good home with me. I love your Henry III. What an unusual portrait that is.
