I recently found a 1944 Jeff Nickel w/o a mint mark in an extensive collection I purchased. In researching it, I discovered it is probably a Henning counterfeit. Condition is VG. Can anyone tell me what the value might be?
Clear, in focus images of reverse required please, and close up of pluribus. Choose Full Image when posting them, not thumbnails
Without pictures it's not one just yet.The mint mark could just be really worn and weight would really be helpful if you can. They sell within the $150-$300 range average. https://www.error-ref.com/henning-counterfeit-nickel/
I bought one many years ago for $1. There are several dates, but the famous one is the 1944 with no mint mark above Monticello. This has been listed as a footnote "The Red Book" for many years. Note small line above Monticello which is tell tale die break. When Henning was caught, it was his second time as a counterfeiter. He had a counterfeit $5 bill on the drawing board when they nabbed him.
