    Hi please help if anyone can educate me on why the mint stamp appears (d) in the wrong position

    That looks like damage.

    It's actually a Philadelphia minted Nickel.
    No mint mark.

    Penny..

    Looks like circulation wear and tear. Scratches that have worn smooth on the soft copper over the decades.
