Just found this Indian head nickel coin roll searching....NO DATE!! So it's between 1913 - 1938.....No way I can find out the date??
I use a solution of white vinegar and a bit of salt disolved into it. Put the nickel in for a few hours to a few days and it will eventually etch out the date.
As furry said and you have nothing to lose at this point. The vinegar will clean it up and something may appear. After that, Nic-A-Date would be your second option. If a date does appear, cease the vinegar as it will eventually etch the coin badly. Never know if there might be a 1914/3 hidden under there.
Thanks Guys for your help....That nickel came out of a roll that I only had done about half of it cause I stopped when I found that Indian head nickel.. Well, I just went back to finish that 1/2 roll and I found 2 more Indian Head nickels!! Wish that would happen every day ( Yeah Right)
If you end up going with Nic-A-Date, only allow 20 seconds on the first run. It works quickly but wipe off briskly with a soft cloth to avoid leaving a dark blotch in the area. Repeat if necessary the same way. It will still leave a brighter spot in this area but not the black ugly spot.
