Got this in a lot of mix coins at an estate sale, it about the size a quarter and very thin. I can not figure out what it is?

    Welcome to CT Kevin,
I don't have a clue but you came to the right place, I am sure that a few folks have an idea. Just hang in there, Someone will be able to help.
PS have you tried to type the lettering on the perimeter into google?

It might be a button. It looks like one side has a spot where something was attached.

If so, why would there be an elaborate design there where no one could see it? To me, it looks Japanese.

What alloy do you think it's made of? Is it bronze?

I don't know why but I've seen two sided buttons before. I'm a world coin collector and to me this doesn't look like a coin. Maybe someone else will prove me wrong though.

I'm an Avid Metal Detectorist with 100's of colonial buttons dug . That's what I say it is . I see where the shank was . One side is ornate and the other just describes the button color and Maker's mark usually . JMO

I would try to search the lettering if I could read it, if it is that is?

Not sure it is sometimes brown, sometimes silver depending on the light.

If there's a way to determine the alloy, it may help focus the search...and rule in/out the button theory.

If you can read any lettering it would be worth the try.
