I recently acquired this coin and need to know if it is worth sending in for a grade. It is a high dollar coin but I am not sure if the scratch on the right side of the obverse and the missing part of the 9 in the date will make this coin considered damaged. Also, there is a hairline scratch on the reverse. What do you vets think? I am new to this so I am trying to learn...

I think this would grade as a 61 or 62 without the problems stated above but I could be wrong. Opinions?

I don't think it will grade. Too much damage.

I don't see any luster. What sort of lighting are you using?

IMO the marks won't keep it from grading.

Can't find a good picture of a '96-O but the one I used to own was PCGS AU50 with no eagle breast feathers and typical 'O' mint basining. This coin is notorious for weak strike and yours just looks like a different date to me.
