Interestingly, the majority of the 750,000 1970 proof sets were minted after 1970! Two of the denominations in the sets were already demonitised when the set came out ... the halfpenny (1969) & halfcrown (1969). Still a nice set to have. I never did find any 1970 coins in circulation, though I'm sure there must have been some that slipped out (florin, shilling and, to an extent, sixpence).
Wow. Today has been much about the British stuff. I'd post a few coins, but I'm off to the pub for a pint of Boddingtons and some chips with HP.
I found Tony's website awhile back. VERY informative and helpful to all collectors, from novice to experienced. I learned many new things and I have been collecting British coins since 1970.
It's a great site. I wish I had known about it earlier, would of helped me with some questions about British coinage.
the first ever decimal coin was issued in 1849 with the introduction of the florin which also carried the legend 1 tenth of a pound............
nice one davey, right up to the end of imperial coinage the half crown was always called a half dollar.
