Not sure what to make of this. I thought I found a silver state quarter when rolling my pocket change but it has a "D" mint mark instead of an "S". The edge is solid silver but I really can't tell a difference in the weight. I tried a balancing stick with a known zinc quarter on one side it it seems to be almost identical in weight. It also seems to sound similar which makes me think this is either a counterfeit or some sort of error.

    Has anyone seen this before?

From what I can see of the coin you posted it looks plated and worth a quarter. :)

    Thanks for the reply!
I suppose there are a multitude of reasons someone would do this and none of them good. Just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing anything.

    Cheers

Likely some science experiment done in a school. I remember some electroplating experiments back in the day in high school.
