If you watch Pecunem sales close trolling for bargains you easily can bid once to raise the bid. However, if you do that and then see that the previous leader had bid more so that you did not go into the lead, you are going to have to work very fast to do it all again before the allotted seconds are gone. It can be fun to watch these sales close and see just how many bids hit in the last ten seconds. I have bought coins with no bids just because it seemed like a reasonable coin but bidding last second on coins that already had bids will certainly just raise a cost to someone who thought they were nearing a bargain.

If you're leaving a pre-bid it would seem sensible to work out your maximum bid and just leave it at that. But I wonder how many of us would revise that maximum bid upwards on a coin we were the top bidder on if we discovered with enough reaction time that someone just outbid us.
I'd personally do more last minute bidding, except that alot of these auctions happen at ungodly hours for me (in particular Pecunem).

I have discovered the only way to save myself from myself is to post a pre-bid at my maximum and not look back till the auction is closed.

That's actually another reason why I'd prefer bidding at the very last minute... and I mean very last, with no reaction time for me to even consider revising my max bid if the pre-existing top bidder's was higher.

I learned how to do auctions but I do not like them much.
