This quite small bronze was in a lot I purchased, and I have become frustrated due to my inability to attribute it. (You can click the image below to make it larger.) The diameter is only 13 x 11.5 mm., and weight is a mere 1.52 gr. I'd be GREATLY appreciative if any of you could discern the Hoover or SC type number.
Hi Russell: Perhaps this AE from Ake-Ptolemais? https://www.coinarchives.com/a/lotv...&Lot=434&Val=b1d9d6c02c74c0641adb9a972d7c3733 https://www.vcoins.com/en/stores/mu...he_dioskouroi__cornucopia/887894/Default.aspx Best, Mike
Mike!!! That's it! I was so set mentally on it being Seleucid that I scoured and re-scoured the online SCO and the printed SC references. Duh! NOT Seleucid! My example is noticeably lighter weight than Hoover indicates in HGC 10, but with your cite I was able to find a few examples online that are comparable weight as mine. Thanks to nice extant detail on mine's reverse, its date can be read. (ZΠP inner right reverse = SE 187 = 126/5 BC.) Interestingly, that was the year that: (a) this small bronze type was first issued, (b) nearby Tyre successfully revolted against the Seleucid Empire, and (c) the Tyrian mint first issued what would become a very long-lasting series of coins known today as shekel of Tyre. Thanks again!
