If your worried about the coins being real or not, order from a large company like Gville, Provident Metals, apmex, etc. They have a very big rep and it would be silly to rip someone of a few hundred bucks.
If you have the knowledge and facilities to detect a fake, eBay's Buyer Protection will get you your money back. On the other hand, it does take time and effort, which I suppose constitutes risk. I've bought gold a dozen or more times from eBay, and I've had to invoke Buyer Protection twice (once because the item was never shipped, once because it was a cheap novelty advertised as a legit coin). I've checked weight and dimensions on every piece, and run several of them past dealers; all checked out. I did have one nasty episode earlier in the year with a fake Walker. I was insufficiently paranoid at the time. Again, though, Buyer Protection came through. I'll buy more if I spot a bargain.
I would never want to go through as much aggrevation as you did. That is why I don't use Ebay anymore.
foinikas those coins vaule will go up and down with the price of gold. As an investment no unless your 100% positive that gold will do nothing but go up. Investing in coins as an investment is never a sure thing
That is a common French 20 franc gold coin that was restruck in large numbers long after 1910-- so the coin has little numismatic value. It only contains .1867 ounce of gold, which means that the gold value of the coin is approximately $313 at today's gold price, but the euro price (including shipping) is equivalent to $415. So no, it isn't a good investment at that price.
