The weight is 27 grams and it appears to be bronze or brass.

A Spanish coin from the late 15th century and later with denomination 8 (VIII) and weighing in the mid-high 20's in grams would normally be silver (reales) or gold (escudos). A denomination of 8 on a copper coin (maravedis) would be much lighter in weight.
