Hi Ian,

Other evidence of die doubling is nice doubling of the lower portion of the crest especially on the lower right portion which would still indicate a pivoted hub die doubling. The tips of the lions claws especially on the right are nicely doubled. The 5 & 4 of the date are nicely doubled and the Fleur de lis design on the right of the crest closest to the 54 is nicely doubled. The ornate design of the tail of the lion ,again especially on the lower right is nicely doubled with strong grooves and notches that would be expected on a doubled die. The inside lines of the crest on the lower right are doubled with some seperation. All the doubling is rounded and duplicates the details. There is nice overlapping as well. The doubling is not flat at all. The W above and to the Left of the S of SHILLING is also doubled .

I'll try to scan some of this stuff, but doing it with a scanner is tough on stuff this small.

Thanks for your reply,

Bill
The doubling is not flat at all. The W above and to the Left of the S of SHILLING is also doubled . I'll try to scan some of this stuff, but doing it with a scanner is tough on stuff this small. Thanks for your reply, Bill
