So... you lost your camera...yet, you're able to post a picture of your 1798 Bust Dollar in another thread??? So... your father bought this at auction 18 years ago (1990)... yet you bought it at Stacks in 1993 for a price you don't remember. So... you ask for opinions but you get irate when the opinions don't meet your expectations. If you really want us to help you with ideas, opinions or other suggestions, I would suggest that you be a little more forthcoming with us. We're all adults here (mostly), I would go a long way if you'd act like one also.
True dat. Sure, PCGS (and others) have representatives at shows. But I have never seen them give out opinions of any kind other than "Submit it and find out." This is policy for a number of reasons. The ones I've talked to are customer service, not numismatic specialists.
theres a piece of plastic on the otherside... lol, its just round like the coin.... So what do you guys think, silver? pewter, or nickel? Fake? Real? Countefiet? Let me know what you think... check page 3 form the comparicon picture...
OK. I thought it looked kind of funny around the rim and that's why. As for it's authenticity...I have no idea. Cool pics though.
You have what appears to be a real item that occupies physical space. It appears to be an exact duplicate of the gold one you have pictured. It seems to be made of a metal or alloy not containing gold. Was it made by the Mint? We don't know.
UNIQUE PATTERN? Let Me Know Your Opinion.. JC1866-? I belive i have a REAL JC1866-3. Their are 5 Different alloys for this pattern Gold, Silver & Copper. Mirriam's Lincoln design for 1866. This is not believed to be a mint product. A similar design by him was created in 1868 P5105. This design also exists in the following combinations: Gold with reeded edge JC1866-1/P5080 with fewer than a half dozen confirmed. Gold with plain edge JC1866-2/P5085 with only 3 or 4 believed to exist. Silver with reeded edge JC1866-3/P5090 is possibly unique. Silver with plain edge JC1866-4/P5095 with only 3 or 4 confirmed. Copper with plain edge JC1866-5/P5100 with only 3 or 4 confirmed. I Belive I Have A Silver One, I bought this coin at a Auction in 1993, and could have paid HUGE $$$$, but dont remember. There has only been one recorded, sold at a STACKS Auction. Heres the link. But it was a gold one... http://www.stacks.com/lotdetail.aspx?lsid=0000000001&asid=&lrid=AMBALT1061 Also sold in 2003, so coudlnt have been mine. I NEED TO KNOW IF THE COIN I HAVE IS FAKE, I BELIVE I HAVE A SILVER ONE, IT IS A LITTLE SMALLER THAN A NICKEL AND WEIGHTS 4.8g. DOES ANYONE KNOW OF ANY OF THE THAT HAVE EVER GONE AROUND AS FAKES? ALSO IF ITS A DUPLICATE DONT YOU HAVE TO WRITE DUPLICATE OR COPY ON THE COIN???? I am a great coin gradder, but not professional, i cant tell if this is real but it looks %1000 real, PLEASE let me know if you KNOW ANYTHING!!!!!! According to my pattern book and http://uspatterns.stores.yahoo.net/p5080.html If i have a Silver, Reeded Edge JC1866-3, Then It May EXTREMELY VALUABLE.....
The reason i rote JC1866-? is because it doesnt look or feel like silver. more like Nickel, Pewter, Alluminum, or some other alloy. Heres a comparison picture, the gold one is the one that is athentic sold by stacks. the silver is mine, the strike is exact only dont be confused by shadows... Let me know what you think... -D
