Alright. I've tried and I've gotten some of it, but I need your help. So far this is what I have: "Presented to (Jimmy?) ______ by L.C. Drake first money taken in the new office. Oct 6th 1881. _______ by _. (SHERRARD?) __________." Any ideas?
L. C. Drake was a department store in Ticonderoga NY (1916 anyways), if that helps. http://nyshistoricnewspapers.org/lccn/sn93063544/1916-07-13/ed-1/seq-1.pdf My guess on some of it: "Presented to (Jimmy?) William?______ by L.C. Drake first money taken in the new office. Oct 6th 1881. ___Received?____ by _. N(SHERRARD?) ___Sheppard?__Barkeeper?_____."
Jimmy Xavier? With the r missing/worn? Those first letters of the name would be easier to decipher if I knew the old font style of writing.
Maybe Johnny instead of Jimmy? Going off 'barkeeper', maybe it says 'served' by. Is there a non-chemical way to bring out the inscription, similar to the way they get obliterated serial numbers off guns?
Restoration of Firearm Serial Numbers with Electron Backscatter Diffraction (EBSD) Or maybe with mechanical resonance? I'm sure you have all of the needed equipment for either of these methods just laying around, lol
There are like 7 different scripts/fonts used on that reverse. I lke it. I think we're just down to getting Johnny's last name correct.(don't think it's 'Earle', as the 'E' would be rounded like a 'C') Sorta feels like I'm playing Mystery Scrabble, lol.
