    I have a friend who is determined to find a "high" grade cent from roll-hunting. He thinks this is a 67+ RD... It ain't bad, but what do CT people think?

    Nope. Too many contact marks. I would say that is no better than 66.

    I'm not a Lincoln cent guy, but way too much chatter on Abe's head and coat to be a 67, don't you think?

    I see a 63 with all of that going on...again to many hits. All that shines isn't gold!

    Yes, way too many small marks to make MS-67. Those grades are almost impossible to get because the coins were not made to the exacting standards for the grade.

    You would be surprised to know how “bad” an MS-63 can be on these coins. They can have lots of marks an spots.

    Well this specimen isn't a keeper for sure..Lincoln's are not my strong suit..but I wouldn't offer 63 money on the op coin....

    I peeked at one online…and I’m no pro but I agree with the others. I have good and bad experiences with Lincolns.

    Per the Red Book, MS63 "money" is $0.20 :)

    MS means Mint State. This coin is not Mint State. It is circulated. You can see the nicks and crud on it, that discoloring. IMO

    The OP coin is Mint State. It’s not a super Gem Mint State coin.

    I remember having this discussion with the late Herb Silberman who was a couple-founder of the Early American Coppers club. He said that any mark took a coin out of the Mint State category. I guess if that were true, then there would one Mint State grade, MS-70. There would not be anything else.

    I agree that normal hits, bag marks, are an inherent mint state. But, this coin, by admission, came from roll hunting. To me CRH implies circulated coins. And the OP has dark smudges that say circulation.

    Here are a couple that I got out of a mint roll I got at the bank 1959.

    On a good day I’d give that coin a MS-64 but I think it’s a 63 due to all the marks.

    MS = no visible wear
    AU = traces of wear

    …this coin has hits/marks/younameit but no wear.

    Nicks and crud do no take a coin out of MS. I'm at MS-63. Additionally, we judge coins on their condition of preservation and not where they have been after leaving the Mint.

    Thank you. I guess giving a coin an MS rate is different than calling it Uncirculated.
