    1. pretty often theres something going on with early copper. does it show up in images? yea/no - when you look at em for a while you begin to see the problems that otherwise wouldnt stand out.

    2. on half cents i wouldnt really know. i usually buy what i can see at a show or a shop and not off the internet.

    3. i believe that all half cents are sort of underappreciated. im sure theres some more then others but when i see a NGC MS61 1806 half cent for 1650 could you imagine what an equally graded large cent would cost.

    4. again check local shops. buying coins over the interent isnt much my thing anymore. if it isnt over priced its probably got problems. ive seen lots of XF-AU classic head and later date half cents for 50-80. they arent that hard to get except for the liberty caps.

Some good advice there, at least for me. I have been looking at both half and large cents lately and find I am starting to like them..

Just a warning...I think older copper is laced with addictive drugs because once you start there is no stopping. No 12 step copper program has been successful thus far.

A further caution, US colonials, medievals, and ancients coins have been known to have the same affect. The problem is the further down that line you go, an unfortunate side effect is "library spread", in which books start to consume your house. If you can stop at only early coppers, then there is a chance that only a bookshelf will be consumed. :)
