it's a Pope John Paul II coin, token, or medal.
    I don't see a date.
    Look on the edges.
Can anyone else provide further help?

IMO I don't think it's a coin because I can't make out a date, country of origin, or denomination. It is a token or medal of Pope John Paul II with the Papal Crest on the reverse. Google it if no one can offer further help.

As mentioned, it's some kind of papal medal, and not a coin. Looks aluminum?

John Paul II was pope from 1978-2005, so that dates it as a fairly modern piece.

From my understanding, they sell these things all over the Vatican. I picked up one for $1 out of a junk bin. Silver plated with some other type of metal underneath.
