First off, I'm the guy that collect gold & silver coins and bullion. At the root of that I am a coin lover period. Just because I don't collect a certain type of coins doesn't mean I don't appreciate the type in questions. With that in mind I bought out a Nickel collection. I am not a Nickel collector, so I am enlisting the help of my Nickel lovers out there to sort through this stuff. Thanks in advance for any feedback.

There are 3 Whitman 9042 folders 2 of them have 65 Nickels all 1964. The 3rd one has 65 Nickels all dated 1939 and 1940. 195 Nickels total.

There are 7 Harris books #2680 1962-1995. All seven are complete and have 66 coins in them each for a total of 462 coins.

There are 2 Complete Harris books 2681 1996 to present and the run through 2013. On the third page the added going back to 1987. Still 66 coins in each for a total of 132 coins.

There is 1 Harris book #2879 1938-1961. Missing 1938-D and 1950-D but otherwise complete with all 11 silver coins. 64 Coins total.

There are 3 Whitman 1938-1964 9410 Albums all of them complete with silver. One is missing the 50-d. The others have it.

Finally my favorite is the Whitman Classic 9116 with 180 coins. All complete from 1938 - 2000 with all silver, 50-d and proofs. 100% complete.

I think I got a good deal, and I don't know what to do with all these but they're here now. So I'm enjoying them for the time being.

    Thanks again!

The key dates of the series are the 1939-d and the 1942-d. The 50-d is just so so.

Thanks! Luckily, all the sets that encompass those years have those coins.

I would start scouring for overdates and errors, but I love error coins :)

Check the 42-d coins for the d over horizontal d, and the 41-s coins for both the large S and inverted small s. They are easy to overlook.

And I would add the 39-s to that list also.
There's also the 1939 w/1940 reverse.(not my area of expertise though)

If you need help with the reverse of 38 vs reverse of 40 on the circ nickels, look at the S in E Plurbus Unum, if the S is rounded at the top, its a reverse of 38, if the S has a serif at the top, its a reverse of 1940.

I would start by separating everything.

Put your 38-40s in a pile,

    Pull out the silvers

    Then the 50-Ds

Once thats complete, put all the rest that are in circulated condition in a bag and hold out any BUs or better. (maybe separate whats left in pre-1960 and post-1960 bags)

THEN go through them for quality and varieties in the core group of valuable coins.

I haven't caught any oddities, but I did find a gorgeous 38-D with some pretty toning. Looks UNC. As soon as I can remember what book it was in i'll post a pic.
