Help identifying this large cent

    John is possibly the most qualified to pin down the date. After all he authored The Cent Book, a well known reference on Middle Date large cents.

    Just a guess but in my opinion it appears to read 1839? Earth to Paddy, earth to Paddy, come in Paddy... Good luck

    Here's the picture of the reverse. Why is it that the last two digits are always worn off??? =D

    I’m not one that can afford great quality coins, but this is one I wouldn’t be messing with or buying. I hope that doesn’t sound offensive, but a coin like this would hold very little value.

    Including both obverse *AND* reverse pictures nails it. Your coin is a US cent of 1832, Newcomb 3 variety, common, graded BasalState 1. Here is a picture of a better example of your die-variety.
