I picked up this amongst many others yesterday. I haven't been able to tie it down so I am looking for any ideas? What I can see - obverse appears to have LUD XIIII behind the bust - so I am assuming Louis XIV of France and therefore late 17th/early 18th century. Remainder of legend I can't quite make out though last few letters may be NARE. Reverse clearly has 1/2 above the word PISTOL and letter W. Three clear Fleur de Lys above. BUT... the Pistol seems to have been a high value gold coin in the French states at that time, whereas this is clearly copper/bronze. So is it a Contemporary forgery (and if so of what) or am I barking up the wrong tree?
This is something I found - I want to share this webpage with you http://coinquest.com/cgi-bin/cq/coins?main_coin=15052 yes maybe barking
